There is a particular kind of dread that lives in a folder called MENU_FINAL_v7_ACTUAL. The dish changed, so someone opens the document, nudges a text box, watches the wine list jump to the next page, gives up, and prints the old menu one more night. The kitchen moved on Tuesday; the paper catches up on Saturday.

The layout should not be the bottleneck

A menu is structured data wearing nice clothes. Courses, dishes, descriptions, prices, allergen marks: none of that should be re-typeset by hand every time a price moves. The typesetting is a template decision you make once, with care. After that, printing is a button.

  • Change the dish where the dish lives, not in a drawing of the menu
  • Let the template pour the content: sections flow, leaders align, prices sit flush
  • Export print-ready when you need it: A4 or half-fold, crop marks, bleed, done

Why this changes what you serve

When a reprint costs four minutes, the specials become actual specials. The dish that ran out at eight is not on tomorrow's lunch menu. The winter list does not linger into May because nobody could face the document. Print stops being a tax on changing your mind, and the menu starts telling the truth again.

The best print workflow is the one the kitchen never has to think about.
